Golf Wish is Right on Par for Lucas

Lucas with clubs in-handFor Lucas, playing golf is a way to relax and escape the pain and fatigue he suffers from his battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma. The courageous 14-year-old has overcome the many struggles of Ewing Sarcoma, cancer effecting the bones and soft tissue, and become an avid golfer over the course of the past few years. Lucas just recently made the high school golf team!

When the Make-A-Wish Foundation® asked Lucas, “if you could make one wish, what would it be”, he knew right away he wanted a new set of golf clubs and a bag that he could carry over his shoulder on the course, rather than having to use his push-cart for his old heavy clubs.

Make-A-Wish volunteers and staff arranged a shopping spree at Golf Galaxy, Kentucky’s premier golf shop. The wish was gratefully adopted and granted by the University of Louisville Chi Omega Sorority!

Lucas and his family were whisked away in a limousine to Golf Galaxy at 8 a.m. to kick off his shopping adventure. With the help of a sales associate, Lucas selected the latest set of Titleist Clubs, a new pair of golf shoes and they even threw in a bunch of Lucas’ favorite golf balls!

Lucas’ mom wrote to Make-A-Wish:
“He got all of the clubs that he really wanted, a nice lightweight bag (so he can now walk 18 holes without using his push cart), a new pair of shoes, and Golf Galaxy threw in a dozen of his favorite golf balls (which trust me, are quite expensive). Kevin from Seneca came over and worked with Lucas for about 90 minutes to get him set up properly.”
“Golf Galaxy also gave Lucas two gift certificates for rounds of golf; one at Oxmoor Country Club and one at South Park Country Club. He was thrilled with the other gift certificates that Tom, a wish volunteer, surprised him with at lunch. We had a great meal at Mark's Feed Store, and Gail dropped him off at Crescent Hill so he could show all of his buddies his new clubs. He golfed from about 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, and played 36 holes a day later. Lucas tends to hide a lot of his emotions, but he was ONE HAPPY CAMPER!! Being a 14-year old, he can easily sleep until noon. Well, he was downstairs by a little after 8:00 a.m. Saturday, and I immediately thought about the little boy on the commercial for Walt Disney World that says, 'I'm too excited to sleep.'"

"Thank you so much for making my wish come true! Working with you all was so easy and you came through with my DREAM set of gold clubs and some wonderful extras! I can’t wait to use the gift certificates for rounds of gold at the places that Golf Galaxy and Make-A-Wish gave me. My new clubs and bag are great and my family and I really enjoyed our limo ride and meal at Mark’s Feed Store. I will definitely remember that day for the rest of my life!
Thanks for all that you do for kids like me!"
Sincerely,
Lucas
