Wish granting an uplifting experience for the entire family

Mikayla meets Sleeping BeautyThe Make-A-Wish Foundation® recently had the opportunity to grant the wish of Terre Haute native Mikayla, who is battling Bilateral Retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer. It was 16 years ago when the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted a wish for her mother Jamie, who also battles the same life-threatening disorder which causes deterioration of vision, a red and irritated eye, faltering growth and delayed development.

Bilateral Retinoblastoma took the vision from Jamie’s left eye when she was just 6-weeks-old. Jamie’s wish was to have her own Mac computer, printer and oak desk. Her wish was granted prior to her second successful surgery, which save the vision in her right eye.

Mikayla meets Micky & Minnie MouseWhen the Make-A-Wish Foundation volunteers asked Mikayla, “If you had one wish, what would you wish for?” Mikayla declared, without hesitation, that she wished to visit Walt Disney World and meet all of the characters. Mikayla’s wish came true April 24-30 when she and her family travelled to Florida to stay at Give Kids the World Resort® and visit the Disney theme parks.

“Words cannot express how much this trip meant to us. It was so nice to just be together as a family and not worry about a thing. We will forever hold our memories near and dear to our hearts,” remarked Jamie.
